When House Hunting – Can We Please Normalize Waiting for the Right Opportunity?

When house hunting, can we please normalize waiting for the right opportunity?  Hear me out, there is a whole bunch of anticipatory chaos involved in house hunting and personally, I would love to see us put an end to much of it.

Yes, real estate is notoriously fast paced. You get coached from the get go of the mindset to “make quick decisions or you will lose out” aka “you snooze you lose” mentality. Is that really a great foundation for the biggest purchase of your life? Probably not!  I often tell my clients “I’m the worst salesperson you will meet.” Why? Not because I want to sell myself short – but because I want people to end up in the right place at the right time and for the right reasons.

So – where are my fellow Realtors and home buyers? Who is with me on normalizing the following?

Not buying at the top of your budget

Reason: I don’t want to see you house poor. You will always want things and history shows us that there will be always be repairs (whether planned or unplanned). Let’s normalize buying an affordable amount of house.

Taking your time and Waiting for the Right Chance

I know, sometimes life rushes important decisions. That said, please slow down and try to enjoy the process. Everything happens for a reason. When we are patient with the process, it is amazing what results can ensue.

Not settling for less than you want

Repeat after me: “I won’t settle just for the sake of settling.” If something was on your list – it was there for a reason. Let’s honor that list that we worked hard to put together that speaks to you/your family/your dream home.

Waiting for the right opportunity

Ask me about my clients who wanted to be in a certain neighborhood. Some things needed to happen in their lives and we back burnered the search for a bit. Fast forward – a for sale sign materialized in their desired neighborhood on the very street where they wanted to be. As they reminded me a few times: if they had rushed themselves, they would have missed out on the ultimate opportunity.

Yes, sellers want to sell and buyers want to buy. But let’s do our part to support calm and intentional home purchasing to help support a more pragmatic approach.

If you are thinking about buying, selling or renting a home in St. Johns, St. Augustine or the Jacksonville, FL metro area – please feel free to contact me to chat about your needs.
