New Way to Arrive in Jacksonville
Amtrak announced a new temporary route yesterday – the Floridian – offering direct service from Chicago to Miami. Passengers will have access to cities including Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Washington D.C., Jacksonville, Orlando and Tampa along the way. This new route combines the Capitol Limited and Silver Star itineraries. Service will commence on November 10th and the entire route is a 47 hour journey crisscrossing 11 states and the District of Columbia.
Class of Travel to Jacksonville
Passengers on board will have access to both Coach and First Class tickets. In Coach, passengers will have wide seats with legroom, windows and no middle seats. Upgrades are available to First Class and dining car meals are available (in limited supply). For those traveling in First Class – there are options including Roomettes or Bedrooms. The former offers 2 seats that recline and can be transformed into beds and shower access. The latter is double the size of a Roomette and offers in-room full bathroom experience (including a shower). The trains also offer accessible bedrooms. Turndown service, meal assistance and attendants are available to those traveling in First Class.
Why the New Route?
The new route is being offered as an accommodation to support the East River Tunnel Rehabilitation Project. This project will help modernize the tunnel infrastructure in the New York City area and bring it well into the next century.
Other Amtrak Routes through Jacksonville
The Silver Meteor will continue daily operations between New York and Miami. This route is typically up to 28 hours for the full itinerary.
