2 New Schools in St. Johns County and Attendance Zones Approved

Earlier this month, 2 new schools in St. Johns County were announced along with the approval of attendance zones for two additional schools.  With construction winding down on Schools “NN” (a K-8 School in the Shearwater area) and “OO” (a K-8 school in the Beacon Lakes area), the St. Johns County will begin construction on Schools “RR” and “QQ.”

Where will School “RR” and School “QQ” be Located?

School “RR” will be located in the Nocatee community, south of Seabrook Village.  School “QQ” will be located within the SilverLeaf Community adjacent to Silver Landing.  Both schools will follow the popular K-8 Academy format and be home to an estimated 1,500 students.  Plans indicate that the new sites will be ready for the 2026-2027 school year.

What Are Academies?

For those not from St. Johns County or the area – you might wonder, what exactly is an academy?  Locally, these are K-8 schools that replace a more traditional elementary and middle school model.  These are public schools and offer the district the ability to maximize resources.

What about School “NN” and School “OO”?

Along with the announcement of Schools RR and QQ came an update on the approval of new school attendance details.  At opening, School NN (the Shearwater school) is expected to house 1,000 students.  The student base will draw select middle school students from Freedom Crossing , Pacetti Bay, Mill Creek and Switzerland Point.  School QQ, in the Beacon Lakes area, will open with approximately 1,200 students.  For the elementary school grades – some incoming students will come from Liberty Pines Academy and others Ocean Palms.  At the middle school level, some students will be moved from Liberty Pines and Alice Landrum.

New Schools in St. Johns County

These newly named and soon to open schools join other recently built and opened schools including Tocoi Creek High School (International Golf Parkway area), Beachside High School (Beachwalk Area) and Pine Island Academy (Nocatee).   The new schools help address student population levels throughout the district.

Why St. Johns County Schools?

Consistently ranked among the top school districts in Florida, St. Johns County is a popular landing spot for families new to the area.  With a mix of elementary, middle, high school and academy format schools – there are numerous options for enrolled students.  While the build out is taking time and leading to some redistricting, many students are having the chance to attend new facilities with state of the art technology and learning experiences.
