About Jacksonville

A Historically Modern City with Small-Town Charm

Jacksonville, Florida comes with a number of distinctions: most populous city in FL and largest city by area in the continuous U.S.  Situated in Duval County, the land was originally inhabited by the Timucua people prior to the 1564 settlement of Fort Caroline by the French.  Settlements grew and a town was established in 1822 and named for Andrew Jackson.

Since then – Jacksonville has grown in a number of ways. From water, to military to private sector – the Bold City supports a number of industries (finance, insurance, logistics and healthcare).  The Port of Jacksonville is Florida’s third largest seaport and is the second largest handler of vehicles in the U.S.

Culturally – there is a strong history and support for the arts. Music has strong roots here and museums are of a quality  many wouldn’t expect from a city of this size. If you’re a sports fan, Jacksonville is home to an NFL team (Jaguars), Triple-A Affiliate baseball team (Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp) and a professional hockey team (Jacksonville Icemen).

Get to Know the First Coast

The Northeast region of Florida is commonly referred to, by locals, as the First Coast.  Encompassing the counties surrounding Jacksonville (Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns) and may occasionally include Putnam and Flagler counties.

With 22 miles of Atlantic Coastline, the Intracoastal Waterway and St. Johns River along with the largest urban park system in the nation there is plenty to enjoy outside for nature lovers.

Relocating?

If you will be relocating to the area you likely have questions about the community, work opportunities, day-to-day life, schools and more.  We relocated our family down here and I draw from my own personal experiences as I look to support your move to the area.  To this day – we maintain it was one of the best decisions ever.  I’d like to help show you the same!
